The idea that these guys have the knowledge, discipline, and insight to rationally reduce government waste is laughable. While they have to backtrack this time, they will continue to do things that negatively impact both US and global security. Some we can see and many we don't. Very concerning.
Ready, Fire, Aim. It's evident that instilling fear IS the goal. Whether it's 'encouraging' undocumented aliens to self-deport or Federal Employees to resign/quit, the goal is to instaill fear. The migrants are the faceless enemies of the people...THEY are the problem. We need to get rid of THEM.
Comparisons to pre-WWII Germany are facile but accurate. Hitler had his brownshirts; Trump has ICE. Neighbors reporting neighbors. Government employees hunkering down and refusing to talk to colleagues. This is dark stuff.
Whether Twitter was failing (Phil) or not, he paid $44B for a company that now is worth substantially less. Of course, that $44B was OPM so he didn't care.
Joe's point about shedding experienced employees is well taken. There may well be an excess and cutting staff might make sense. And there would be resistance. I think the goal is to create facts on the ground...a slashed work force...and get forgiveness later; forget permission.
TRUMP IS DETACHED FROM REALITY AND A DANGER TO OUR DEMOCRACY
---------------------
Dr. Bandy X. Lee, a forensic psychiatrist and editor of The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, has long expressed concerns about Donald Trump's mental health, particularly regarding his detachment from reality and potential danger to public safety. In her analyses, Dr. Lee suggests that Trump's behavior may reflect a form of "shared psychosis," where his delusional beliefs and grandiosity influence his supporters, leading to a collective detachment from reality.
---------------------
Trump's recent self-declaration as a "king" exemplifies the grandiose self-image that Dr. Lee and other mental health professionals have warned about. Such proclamations not only indicate a distorted self-perception but also pose significant risks to democratic institutions and societal norms. Dr. Lee emphasizes that when a leader exhibits signs of mental instability, it can have a profound impact on the nation's mental health and governance structures.
---------------------
In summary, from Dr. Lee's perspective, Trump's self-identification as a "king" underscores deep-seated psychological issues that endanger both individual well-being and the foundational principles of democracy.
Quibble: Twitter was destroyed long before Musk by it's publishing model. Free, open to everyone, short form based. The same thing will happen to Notes.
Your article points to a hopeful theory about this administration. Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves. As the pile of FUBAR grows, the honeymoon period will start to whither, and sooner or later the pendulum will begin swinging back in the other direction, as it always does. The current "drunk on power" phase just accelerates the process.

Musk turned Twitter into an economically sustainable business. US GOV is getting a similiar review. Well past time.
Who is reviewing the govt?Give a name
Twitter lost half its value under Musk. Does anybody advertise there?
